For a higher education in French-speaking Belgium with an international flavour

Today more than ever before, internationalisation is right at the heart of the main missions pursued by the higher education institutions of French-speaking Belgium. A real transversal priority, both on a regional and national or even international level, it translates into various projects: student exchange programmes, a wide range of programmes and courses delivered entirely or partly in English, a large number of international students, professors and researchers, the development of joint and double degrees and much more besides.

Ever more international students for the Wallonia-Brussels Federation

Today, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation has a significant portion of international students, researchers and professors in its higher education institutions:

  • More than 20% of our Bachelor or Master students are international.
  • French-speaking Belgian higher education institutions have more than 40% of international PhD students.
  • International professors and researchers account for more than 20%.
  • 16% of Belgian students experience at least one form of mobility during their course.

Research: a decidedly international sector

Because the Wallonia-Brussels Federation is a small territory and because research there is very international, almost 70% of all scientific publications are “joint international property”. To put this in context, the European average is just 32.7%!
